Hammered and Crashed

Last night at 11 pm, 19 year old Ozan Alparslan was killed in a drunk-driving car crash after being thrown from his car and crushed between his car and an IETT city bus on Nato Yolu in Cengelkoy, Istanbul.

Ozan Alparslan was in the process of being drafted for the Turkish Army, and was due to report, Thursday-the day after the crash. Mr. Alparslan was taking one more "night on the town" before his ordination. The young man was intoxicated and in possession of a 2005 Renault Broadway. He left the bar at 10:30 and began to drive home-he was driving 20 kph over the speed limit when he and the IETT bus collided on Nato Yolu.

Cem Bayir was driving the IETT city bus to the "barn" when he noticed a car driving towards him at a shocking speed. "I saw him coming and tried to avoid the accident by switching to the left lane. Unfortunately, the Renault driver also changed lanes and drove straight into me," claims 45 year old Cem Bayir.

The two vehicles collided smashing the front of both cars. Cem Bayir was virtually unharmed, meanwhile Ozan Alparslan was dead on impact. Mr. Bayir was sent to Medicana Hospital to be treated for his broken arm and is scheduled to be released tomorrow morning as soon as possible.
